For a number of years there has been an ongoing issue with vehicles being parked partly on the grass verges opposite the Arthur Herdman Playing Field in Village Street and fronting the Allotments in Lordine Lane. This narrows the width of the road, making it especially difficult for larger vehicles to pass. Additionally, parking on the verges when the ground is soft causes damage – and they look unsightly. The Parish Council is considering improving the verges in order to allow vehicles to be parked on them fully.
The owner of the verges, East Sussex County Council, has indicated that it would be minded to approve a ‘Grasscrete’ solution (a concrete grid system with grass growing in between) – and that it may be prepared to fund 50% of the cost under its Community Match scheme. However, applications must evidence community support – hence this consultation before we move on to commission feasibility assessments (which will include cost estimates).
